letter from the president
Dear Friends,

At the beginning of this journey five years ago, we did not anticipate what we were getting into.  Neither did our Advisory Board! As the Scripture says, a thing’s end is better than its beginning; it is God’s glory to conceal things and the glory of kings to discover them.  That’s us: discovery and improvement!

What began as a general partnership morphed completely into a non-profit organization in 2005; that’s better.  Our mission focus – helping the church live the Gospel and extend God’s kingdom throughout the business world – has become sharper, clearer and more compelling; that’s also better.  Our ministry outreach has broadened; better still.  So please feel free to pray and praise the Lord for the progress we are thankful to share with you.

As a seasoned partner in charge of the family law practice at Palermo, Barbaro, Chinen & Pitzer (PBC&P), Richard L. Chinen, Esq., recently embarked on a journey to help the family law section of the Pasadena-based law firm to more effectively reflect God’s purposes and kingdom values.  To do so, he asked Working Faith to perform a Practice Management Audit, which resulted in the creation and implementation of a common vision, values and goals.

With our help, PBC&P’s family law team articulated a mission: “We satisfy our clients’ needs for compassionate, strong, truthful and honorable legal representation, seeking peace and justice in a manner pleasing to God.”  The firm also developed several core values through which it will satisfy its mission, including:

  • Access and support for mediation and settlement as clients’ first resort for disputes,
  • Love and prayer for clients, their opponents, opposing counsel and judicial officers, and
  • Competent legal services with well-managed cases and records.

The PBC&P family law team’s mission and core values have already begun to impact their decisions, policies and relationships.  “Working Faith’s help enabled us to move ahead in a way I had wanted to for years, but I found I just wasn’t able to do it alone due to the lack of time and objective perspective dedicated to evaluating and shaping how and why we went about helping our clients,” said Rich.  “With their assistance, my hopes have now been translated into reality for our practice.  We will continue to seek to provide the highest level of legal representation for our clients, but we will do so with an overarching mission that impacts not only our clients, but others in the firm, our opponents, other counsel and others involved in the process.”

With Working Faith’s periodic follow-up, the PBC&P team continues to implement changes that will have a lasting impact on its staff, workplace policies, and client lives.
